A South Korean court ruled Friday on the case of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was arrested in January for his December 3 martial law decree, which investigators say amounted to rebellion. If convicted, he faces the death penalty or life imprisonment, according to Yonhap News Agency.
Yoon was also impeached by lawmakers in December, and the Constitutional Court will determine whether to remove him from office or reinstate him. If the impeachment is upheld, a national election must be held within two months to choose his successor. The Seoul Central District Court made the ruling, but officials have not immediately confirmed the reports. Other South Korean media have also carried similar accounts.
