Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, while unveiling the state budget, introduced a series of welfare measures designed to uplift government employees, farmers, and tea garden workers.
Nearly 2.8 lakh government employees will benefit as the state extends Old Pension Scheme (OPS) benefits under the New Pension Scheme (NPS).
From October, ration card holders will receive 1 kg of lentils, sugar, and salt each month, with ₹370 crore set aside for fair price shop commissions.
A one-time ₹5,000 financial aid will reach 6.8 lakh tea garden workers, both casual and permanent, supported by a ₹342 crore allocation.
Contractual and PSU employees drawing salaries from commercial banks will be covered under a zero-cost accident and death insurance scheme.
Budding science and education writers will receive ₹25,000 in one-time aid. Additionally, ₹1,000 will be provided to government employees for book purchases, encouraging a reading culture.
Financial support for paddy (₹250/quintal), maize (₹250/quintal), and mustard (₹500/quintal) aims to enhance agricultural output.
With ₹200 crore allocated for a new Assembly building and MLA hostel, Dibrugarh is set to become Assam’s second capital.
This budget strengthens Assam’s socio-economic framework, ensuring inclusive growth across various sectors.
