Tulsi Gabbard, US Director of National Intelligence has announced a diplomatic tour of the Indo-Pacific, which includes a visit to India.
Gabbard’s visit to India follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US in February 2024. During his visit, PM Modi met with Tulsi Gabbard and called her a “strong votary” of the India-US friendship.
Gabbard also called it an “honour” to welcome PM Modi and said she looks forward to continuing bolster the US-India friendship. Additionally, it was PM Modi’s first visit to the United States following Donald Trump assumed office for a second term.
During his visit to the US, he met Donald Trump at the White House, the first meeting between the two leaders following Trump assumed office as the 47th US President on January 20. The two leaders shared a warm hug as Trump welcomed PM Modi at the White House.
India Visit Marks A Milestone
The trip will be Gabbard’s first visit to India since being sworn in as the eighth Senate-confirmed DNI. Tulsi Gabbard is a former U.S. Congresswoman who represented Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District from 2013 to 2021. She is known for her political stances, including advocating for anti-interventionist foreign policies, environmental conservation, and criminal justice reform.
She is also notable for her background as a military veteran, having served as a Major in the Hawaii Army National Guard. Gabbard got attention for her opposition to U.S. military involvement in foreign conflicts, particularly the wars in the Middle East.
Her views and positions have sometimes placed her at odds with the Democratic establishment, leading to her departure from the party in 2022, when she announced that she was leaving the Democratic Party and identifying as an independent.
