In the Bangladesh Army, a senior officer reportedly linked to Pakistan has been placed under surveillance over suspicions of attempting to stage a coup. The directive was issued by Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman following he received intelligence about an alleged plot by Lieutenant General Faizur Rahman, Quarter Master General (QMG) to replace him.
The Army Chief’s secretariat was alerted to clandestine meetings organized by Lt Gen Faizur Rahman without the Chief’s knowledge, according to a report by India Today.
In the first week of March, Lt Gen Faizur Rahman convened a meeting of key divisional commanders (GOCs). However, the Army Chief’s secretariat secured information about the gathering and issued a warning to top officials.
