Nominations for the Padma Awards-2026, to be announced on Republic Day 2026, began on March 15, 2025, and will close on July 31, 2025. Nominations must be submitted online via the Rashtriya Puraskar Portal (https://awards.gov.in).
The Padma Awards, which include Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, are among India’s highest civilian honors, established in 1954, and recognize exceptional achievements across various fields such as Arts, Literature, Education, Sports, Medicine, and more. All individuals, regardless of race, occupation, or gender, are eligible, while government employees, barring Doctors and Scientists, are not.
The Government aims to make the Padma Awards more inclusive, emphasizing nominations from women, underrepresented communities, and those providing selfless service. Nominations must follow the specified format on the portal, including a citation (maximum 800 words) detailing the nominee’s achievements.
More information can be found on the Ministry of Home Affairs website (https://mha.gov.in) and the Padma Awards Portal (https://padmaawards.gov.in). Citizens are encouraged to participate.
