In the past five years, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which manages the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, has paid Rs 396 crore in taxes to the government said trust secretary Champat Rai.
Rai said the amount was paid between February 5, 2020, and February 5 in 2025. Of this, Rs 270 crore was paid as goods and services tax (GST), while the remaining Rs 130 crore was paid under several other tax categories, Rai said following attending a meeting of the trust.
He added that Ayodhya had seen a rise in visitors, which lead to major religious tourism centre and created local job opportunities. Trust Secretary said that 1.26 crore devotees visited Ayodhya during the Maha Kumbh.
In 2024, Ayodhya recorded 16 crore visitors, including five crore who visited the Ram Temple, Rai said. According to the media sources, the Ram Temple, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January last year, is 96 % complete. It is expected that the temple will be fully ready by June.
As of now, Rs 2,150 crore has been spent on the temple and the trust has given Rs 396 crore to the government in taxes, including GST.
Rai stated the trust’s financial records were audited by officials from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
Over the past five years, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has contributed ₹400 crore in taxes. This includes ₹270 crore paid as Goods and Services Tax (GST) and ₹130 crore under other tax categories.
