On Monday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Tulsi Gabbard, the United States’ Director of National Intelligence.
The meeting was held following she spoke to the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and he called for action against Separatist group Sikhs For Justice outfit and its founder, Gurpatwant Pannun.
During their meeting, the two also exchanged gifts. PM Modi presented the US intel chief with a vase with Ganga water from Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, which hosted the Maha Kumbh.
Additionally, it’s Gabbard’s second meeting with the Prime Minister in just two months. Earlier, the two met in February, when PM Modi was in Washington, D.C. for a bilateral with US President Donald Trump.
PM Modi and Gabbard discussed the ways to enhance cooperation to tackle issues such as terrorism and cybersecurity. It set the tone and vision for a stronger India-US partnership.
Gabbard met Rajnath Singh to discuss various issues, including intel-sharing, to further deepen the India-US partnership. This is before she met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Singh and Doval, raised the Sikh Separatist terrorist issue, with reference to concerns about anti-India elements operating from American soil.
Gabbard spoke with NDTV on variety of topics, including the friendship between Trump and Modi, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the Houthi threat. She also spoke about the situation in Bangladesh.
Additionally, on Tuesday Gabbard will address the Raisina Dialogue – India’s premier multi-national forum on geopolitics and geoeconomics hosted by India since 2016.
Tulsi Gabbard is in India as part of a multi-country visit to the Indo-Pacific that includes stops at Japan and Thailand, and emphasizes on making strong relationships, understanding, and open lines of communication to achieve Trump’s ‘peace, freedom, and prosperity’ objectives.
Last month, she was appointed as the US’ top intel chief and, in this role, oversees 18 American intel agencies, including the CIA, the FBI, and the NSA, on a budget of nearly $100 billion.
Tulsi Gabbard expressed admiration for India and the influence of Bhagavad Gita in her life. While speaking about the role of the Bhagavad Gita in her life, she emphasised how Krishna’s teachings to Arjuna give her strength, peace, and comfort in her daily life.
“My personal spiritual practice and relationship with God are at the centre of my life. Every day, I do my best to live in a way that is pleasing to God and to be of service to all of God’s children,” said Gabbard.
Gabbard described her fondness for India, calling it as a place where she “always feels at home.”
