Meerut police have revealed that Sahil Shukla, accused in the murder of merchant navy officer Saurabh Rajput, used the victim’s money for gambling. Sahil bet on IPL matches and used his winnings to fund a lavish lifestyle for himself and Muskan Rastogi, Saurabh’s wife and co-accused.
Police sources said Muskan received Rs 1 lakh every month from Saurabh. She informed Sahil whenever the money arrived, and he used it for betting. Sahil’s neighbors claimed he had no regular job and relied on gambling earnings.
The murder was planned months in advance. Police have identified nine individuals linked to the case, including shopkeepers and a doctor. Seven have been questioned so far.
Saurabh’s mother has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for a thorough investigation and the death penalty for the accused. She also wants custody of her granddaughter, fearing for the child’s safety.
Muskan’s parents also demanded the harshest punishment for their daughter. The murder has shocked the city, and authorities are continuing their investigation.
