The Allahabad High Court Bar Association has passed a resolution demanding the impeachment of Justice Yashwant Varma. This comes after allegations of a large stash of cash being discovered at his official residence following a fire.
On Monday, the Delhi High Court immediately withdrew all judicial work from Justice Varma. A notice was issued stating that he will not handle any cases until further orders. Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, D.K. Upadhyaya, ordered this decision.
Justice Varma was handling cases related to sales tax, GST, and company appeals. His responsibilities have now been reassigned to other judges, including Justices Subramonium Prasad and Prathiba M. Singh.
The Supreme Court has also uploaded an inquiry report, including photos and videos of the alleged cash discovery. A three-member committee has been set up to investigate the matter.
Justice Varma has denied the allegations and called it a conspiracy to malign him. He stated that neither he nor his family members had placed any cash in the storeroom of his residence.
