Leaders in Greenland are strongly opposing the upcoming visit of Usha Vance, the Second Lady of the United States. In less than a day after Washington announced the visit, Greenland’s government has decided to boycott the delegation.
The visit, scheduled from March 27 to March 29, will include a stop at the US military base in Greenland. National Security Adviser Mike Waltz and Energy Secretary Chris Wright will accompany Usha Vance.

Greenland’s outgoing Prime Minister, Mute Egede, has called the visit a “provocation” and said that the interim government will not meet the delegation. However, stopping their entry to the US base is not possible due to treaty obligations.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that he wants to “buy Greenland” and has not ruled out using force. He claims the move is necessary for US national security, as Greenland is rich in mineral resources.
Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has responded by saying that the US must respect Greenland’s sovereignty.
The White House insists the visit is meant to strengthen partnerships and promote economic cooperation. However, security has been tightened in Greenland ahead of the trip.
