A three-member panel set up by the Supreme Court is investigating the case involving Delhi High Court Judge Yashwant Varma after a large amount of cash was allegedly found at his residence.
The panel, led by senior judges from different high courts, has begun its probe in Delhi. Officials from the fire department will be questioned, and Justice Varma’s call records will be examined.
The Supreme Court formed this panel after a fire broke out at Justice Varma’s residence on March 14. During the firefighting operation, cash was reportedly recovered from a storeroom that was accessible only to the residents of the house.
On Monday, the Supreme Court Collegium decided to transfer Justice Varma back to the Allahabad High Court. His judicial work at the Delhi High Court was also reassigned to other judges.
Justice Varma has denied the allegations, saying he is being unfairly targeted.
