In an exclusive order, US President Donald Trump signed an expansive executive order that will bring alterations in the US election procedure, including a new requirement for voters to provide proof of citizenship while registering for elections. The order also states that all ballots must be received by Election Day.
The executive order says that the US has failed to “enforce basic and necessary election protections” and requires states to collaborate with federal agencies to share voter lists and prosecute election-related crimes. Additionally, those states that do not follow the necessary steps may face the loss of federal funding.
The orders came in the pretext of years-long criticism of US election systems. He repeatedly claimed—without evidence—that elections were rigged, especially in the 2020 race, where he lost to Democrat Joe Biden. These allegations were consistently debunked, and his legal attempts to challenge the results were dismissed in court.
