- Amit Shah said minorities are safest in India.
- Called India a geo-cultural nation, not just geo-political.
- Highlighted CAA’s role in protecting oppressed communities.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that minorities are the safest in India. He highlighted that even the world’s smallest minority community is secure only in India.
Speaking during the debate on the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025, he stated that India is a geo-cultural nation and not just a geo-political nation. He explained that India’s borders are shaped by its culture, not just geography.
Shah defended India’s decision not to sign the UN Refugee Convention, saying that India never needed a separate refugee policy. Under the philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, India has always welcomed minorities from around the world.
He gave examples of Persians and Jews who took refuge in India. He also mentioned that under Prime Minister Modi, people from six oppressed communities are finding safety in India through the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
