India has dispatched around 15 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Myanmar following a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake and a 6.8-magnitude aftershock that struck the country on Friday afternoon. The disaster has caused massive destruction and claimed over 150 lives.
An Indian Air Force C-130J aircraft took off from Hindon Air Force Station, carrying essential relief supplies, including tents, sleeping bags, blankets, ready-to-eat meals, water purifiers, hygiene kits, solar lamps, generator sets, and critical medicines such as Paracetamol, antibiotics, syringes, gloves, and bandages.
This marks India’s first tranche of emergency assistance to Myanmar. Following the quake, which also affected neighboring Thailand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed solidarity and assured that India stands ready to provide all necessary support. Tremors from the earthquake were also felt in several Indian cities, including Kolkata and Imphal.
