US President Donald Trump has warned Iran of “very bad things” if it does not agree to a nuclear deal. Speaking at the Oval Office on Friday, he said he had sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, urging talks.
Trump made it clear that while he prefers a peaceful agreement, failure to negotiate could lead to serious consequences for Iran. “We either have to talk and talk it out, or very bad things are going to happen to Iran,” he stated.
In 2018, Trump withdrew the US from a nuclear agreement that had lifted sanctions on Iran in exchange for limiting its nuclear program. Now, he is open to new talks but continues to impose strict sanctions and military threats.
Iran has refused direct talks under these conditions but has responded through Oman, a country that has acted as a mediator in the past. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed sending a reply letter to Trump’s outreach.
Tensions between the US and Iran remain high, with no clear sign of an agreement yet.
