A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit Myanmar, with its center in Mandalay, followed by a second 6.4 magnitude quake. These two strong earthquakes have caused huge damage, destroying buildings, roads, monasteries, and airports. The death toll has reached over 1002 people, and more than 2,300 others have been injured. Around 30 people are still missing, and the number of deaths is expected to increase.
In Mandalay, many buildings collapsed, including one of the biggest monasteries. In Naypyidaw, the capital, rescue teams have been working to save people trapped under the rubble. Myanmar is in an area known for earthquakes, and experts predict the death toll could go higher.
In Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, the earthquake caused a tower to collapse, killing several people. A state of emergency has been declared, and flights were stopped for a while. So far, 10 people have died, 22 are injured, and about 100 are missing. The death toll in Thailand is also likely to rise.
