Five students from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee have been booked for attempted murder after allegedly attacking a fellow student with glass bottles, police said.
The incident occurred around 11 PM on March 23, outside the campus, when the victim, 23-year-old Ajit Kumar Keshri from Jharkhand, was reportedly ambushed. In his police complaint, Keshri, an MTech student, stated that the accused struck him from behind with large glass bottles, shattering them on his head.
“They hit me with three glass bottles, causing me to collapse. As I lay on the ground, they continued to punch and kick me, targeting my face, nose, and eyes until I lost consciousness,” Keshri alleged. He regained consciousness at the institute’s hospital, where doctors provided initial treatment. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later shifted to Max Hospital, Dehradun, and admitted to the ICU.
According to Roorkee Circle Officer Narendra Pant, the attack followed an altercation during a college fest. “The fight escalated outside the campus. We are currently gathering evidence, and no arrests have been made yet,” he said.
Police are investigating the case while the condition of the victim remains under medical supervision.
