The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to elect its next national president by the end of the current Parliament session, according to sources. The party is also likely to choose new state chiefs by the end of April.
Jagat Prakash Nadda, who is the current working president of the BJP, has been leading the party since 2019. Before Nadda, Amit Shah was the national president. Nadda is also serving as the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, as well as the Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers in the Modi government.
In addition, the BJP will elect new state leaders for 19 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal. To elect the next national president, the BJP must finish organizational elections in at least 50% of the states. Currently, elections have been completed in 12 of the 18 states needed.
The new national president will be the 12th leader of the BJP, and this person will serve in a full-time role. Nadda had been the working president when he was first elected in 2019, but he became the full-time president in 2020.
