On Friday, Modi expressed his condolences on X (formerly Twitter) and paid tribute to Manoj Kumar’s lasting legacy.

Manoj Kumar passed away at the age of 87 on Friday morning at 4:03 am in Mumbai, at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. His body will be kept at his home in Juhu from Friday afternoon for friends, fans, and industry colleagues to pay their respects. His cremation will likely take place on Saturday.
The cause of his death was a severe heart attack, known as cardiogenic shock due to acute myocardial infarction. Reports also mentioned that Manoj Kumar had been suffering from liver disease, which made his health worse over the past few months.
He had been in the hospital since February 21, 2025, when his condition worsened. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit shared the sad news, calling him a “legendary” and inspiring figure in the Indian film industry. Manoj Kumar was famous for his roles in movies like Shaheed, Upkar, and Rang De Basanti. These films, especially his patriotic roles, were loved by many in India.
