- Trump posted a video of an airstrike on Houthi fighters in Yemen
- The footage showed a group before a powerful explosion
- Trump commented, claiming the Houthis won’t attack US ships again
US President Donald Trump caused a stir on Friday by posting a dramatic video on social media. The video showed what seemed to be an airstrike on Houthi fighters in Yemen. It was black-and-white footage, possibly from a military drone, showing a group of people gathered before a huge explosion occurred, creating a cloud of dust and smoke.
Trump wrote on social media, “These Houthis gathered for instructions on an attack. Oops, there will be no attack by these Houthis! They will never sink our ships again!”
This video was posted during a series of US airstrikes in Yemen, which have been happening for the last 20 days. The strikes were in response to threats from the Houthis against Israeli ships in the Red Sea. The Houthis had also taken responsibility for attacks on US warships, including the USS Harry S Truman aircraft carrier, increasing tensions in the area.
The Houthis, a rebel group, have also shot down three US drones since March, angering the US because of the group’s involvement in regional conflicts, especially after the Gaza war.
