While the country was celebrating the birth of Lord Shri Ram, a troubling incident happened in Danilimda, Ahmedabad on Sunday. A man named Wajid Shahenshah, who is known for causing trouble, tried to disturb the peace by tearing BJP flags and insulting Hindu workers. This led to a crowd of local Muslims gathering, which made the situation tense on a day meant for unity.
It was also the foundation day of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and there was a workers’ conference planned for Monday near the Peer Kamal Masjid in Danilimda. BJP volunteers, including local BJP ward president Bhaumik, had peacefully put up flags for the event.
Trouble began when Wajid Shahenshah showed up, ripped down the flags, and started abusing the workers. When Bhaumik and others tried to stop him, Shahenshah used casteist slurs and pushed them before running away. This led to people from both communities gathering, and BJP supporters blocked the road, demanding Shahenshah’s arrest.
According to ‘OpIndia’, BJP workers provided video evidence and identified Shahenshah as the accused. Police Inspector Rawat said that action would be taken soon, and Shahenshah would be arrested.
“He Used Casteist Slurs Against Me And Even Insulted PM Modi”: Complainant
The formal complaint process started around 3 AM. Bhaumik Sokhadiya, the BJP ward president, told OpIndia, “I was helping set up party flags for Monday’s event when Wajid Shahenshah showed up. He started shouting and tearing down the flags. When we tried to stop him, he pushed me and used caste-based insults. He also made disrespectful comments about our respected Prime Minister Modi.”
Meanwhile, BJP MP Sukanta Majumdar said that a Ram Navami rally was attacked in Kolkata’s Park Circus Seven Point area. However, the police clarified that no permission was given for any procession.
In a post on X, Mr Majumdar, who represents West Bengal’s Balurghat in Lok Sabha, alleged that “stones were rained down on vehicles just for carrying saffron flags”.
In April 2025, over eighteen people including two minors and many police personnel were injured and several shops were damaged as violence erupted in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.
