Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh on Friday. During his visit, he laid the foundation stones for 44 development projects worth ₹3,880 crore. Speaking at a public rally, PM Modi said that Varanasi is growing fast in every area. He said he feels lucky to start and launch so many development works in the city. PM Modi also said that these new projects will speed up the city’s progress. He added that Varanasi has seen big changes and development in the last 10 years.

PM Modi Distributes Ayushman Cards to Senior Citizens in Varanasi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave Ayushman health cards to three senior citizens during his visit. He also handed out certificates for three Geographical Indications (GI) – special tags given to unique local products. PM Modi transferred a bonus of ₹106 crore to dairy farmers in Uttar Pradesh who are linked with Banas Dairy (Amul). This bonus is a reward for their hard work and milk production.
Varanasi Unveils 100 New Anganwadi Centres and 356 Libraries for Growth and Education
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also opened a new transit hostel at the Police Lines and police barracks in Ramnagar. He also launched four new rural roads, according to Varanasi Divisional Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma. Other new projects include 130 drinking water schemes, 100 new Anganwadi centres, 356 libraries, a polytechnic college in Pindra, and a new government degree college. These projects aim to improve rural development and bring better facilities to the region.
PM Modi Inaugurates Several Urban Development Projects
Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated several projects at Shastri Ghat and Samne Ghat. He also launched beautification projects by the Railways and the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA). Among the new projects, 25 worth ₹2,250 crore were announced, focusing mainly on improving the city’s electricity supply. This includes building 15 new substations, installing new transformers, and laying 1,500 km of new power lines.
A new 220 kV substation will be set up near Chaukaghat to ensure 24-hour electricity without interruptions. The Prime Minister also laid the foundation for three new flyovers, road widening, school renovations, and two stadiums in Shivpur and UP College.
PM Modi Meets Top Officials, Orders Strict Against Gang-Rape Accused
When Prime Minister Modi arrived, he was given a detailed report by the Police Commissioner, Divisional Commissioner, and District Magistrate of Varanasi about the gang-rape of a 19-year-old woman by 23 men over six days. The Prime Minister instructed the officials to take strict action against the criminals and to put measures in place to stop such incidents from happening again. So far, the police have arrested nine people in connection with the case. They are still searching for 14 more individuals who are named in the complaint.
