West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has received a contempt notice for criticizing a recent Supreme Court judgment in public. The notice was sent on April 10 by lawyer Siddharth Dutta on behalf of an NGO named Aatmdeep. This comes after the Supreme Court, on April 3, agreed with the Calcutta High Court’s decision to cancel nearly 26,000 illegal job appointments made through the School Service Commission (SSC) in West Bengal.
This case is commonly known as the “SSC Job Scam.” Mamata Banerjee’s comments about the court’s decision have now led to this legal notice.
Mamata Banerjee Faces Heat for Public Defiance of Supreme Court Order in SSC Scam Case
The notice said that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made statements that challenge the authority of the Supreme Court during a public speech on April 8. In her speech, Banerjee questioned the cancellation of jobs and said, “Who has the right to take away someone’s job? No one… We are fully prepared with Plans A to E. You can put me in jail for saying this, but I don’t care.”
She also claimed there is a conspiracy behind the court’s decision. According to her, the goal is to ruin the education system and wrongly label qualified teachers as “thieves” and “ineligible.”

Supreme Court Moved For Contempt Against Mamata Banerjee For Her Remarks Against Judiciary
A petition was filed in the Supreme Court asking for contempt action against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This was in response to her old remark where she allegedly said that court judgments are given in exchange for money. The petition was filed by Bhim Singh, founder of the J&K Panthers Party and a senior lawyer. He said Mamata’s comment could make people lose trust in the Indian judicial system and damage its image and authority.
Through his lawyer D.K. Garg, Bhim Singh also asked the court to tell the Union Government to provide full details of Mamata’s speech made on August 14, 2012.
Election Commission Notice To Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Over Remarks Against Central Forces
The Election Commission has sent a notice to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for making what it called “false and provocative” comments about central armed police forces posted in the state during elections.
The Commission said her statements could lower the morale of the security personnel doing their duty. According to the notice, Mamata Banerjee may have broken some rules under the Indian Penal Code and the Model Code of Conduct with her remarks.
The notice said “Far more discouraging is the fact that Ms Banerjee has been trying to make an emotional pitch for women voters to go to the extent of inciting them to attack the personnel of CPFs (central police forces).
Mumbai Court Issues Summons To Mamata Banerjee For Disrespecting The National Anthem
On February 2, 2022, a court in Mazgaon, Mumbai, sent a summons to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly disrespecting the national anthem. The complaint was filed by BJP Mumbai Secretary, Advocate Vivekanand Gupta, on December 1, 2021. He said that Mamata Banerjee showed disrespect by singing the national anthem while sitting and then suddenly stopping after only 4 or 5 lines.
This happened during a public event at the Y B Chavan Auditorium in south Mumbai, where she was invited as a guest.
