In a significant security breakthrough, Gadchiroli Police, in collaboration with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), arrested four hardcore Maoists during a joint anti-Maoist operation conducted in the Palli Forest area on April 19, 2025. These individuals were previously involved in the killing of a police personnel and were reportedly preparing for a fresh attack in the region.
According to a detailed report, the operation took place within the jurisdiction of Tadgaon Police Station, under the Bhamragad sub-division of Gadchiroli district. Personnel from Tadgaon Police Station and CRPF’s 09 Battalion, F-Coy., while patrolling the Palli forest, detained four persons found moving suspiciously in the area. The suspects were subsequently taken to the Police Sub-Headquarters in Pranhita (Aheri) for detailed investigation.
Following intensive interrogation, the individuals were identified as:
- Sailu Bhumayah Muddela Raghu, alias Pratap, alias Irapa
- Jaini Bhima Kharatam, alias Akhila, alias Rame
- Zansi Doge Talandi, alias Gangu
Manila Pido Gawade, alias Sarita
As per official police records, all four are listed hardcore Maoists and were allegedly conducting reconnaissance in the Palli forest area with the intention of executing an attack. During the investigation, it was further established that the group had direct involvement in the murder of a police personnel during an encounter that took place on February 11, 2025, in the Dirangi-Fulnar forest area.
The accused have now been formally arrested in connection with Crime No. 01/2025 registered at Kothi Police Station. They have been booked under a comprehensive set of legal provisions, including:
- Bharatiya Nyay Samhita (BNS): Sections 103, 109, 121(1), 132, 189(2), 190, 191(2), and 61
- Arms Act: Sections 25, 27, 3, and 5
- Explosive Substances Act: Sections 3, 4, and 5
- Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA): Sections 13, 16, 18, 20, and 23
- Maharashtra Police Act (MPA): Section 135
An official statement from the Maharashtra Police underlined the continued Maoist threat in the region. Gadchiroli district has long been affected by Maoist activities, including attacks on security forces, destruction of government property, and obstruction of developmental work through acts such as arson.
