In a major operation on the morning of April 21, eight Maoists were killed in an encounter with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district. The gunfight took place in the Lugu hills, located under the Lalpania area of Bokaro. The incident has added to the ongoing fight between security forces and Maoist rebels in the region, which has seen a number of similar clashes in recent months.
According to officials, the exchange of fire between the Maoists and the security personnel broke out early in the morning. The CRPF confirmed that eight dead bodies of Maoists had been recovered from the area following the operation. The operation was carried out by a joint team of CRPF and local police forces, which led to the successful neutralization of the Maoist group.
The CRPF also assured that no personnel from their side were injured in the encounter. The police and CRPF had been conducting search operations in the region due to growing concerns over the activities of Maoist groups in the area.
Among the Maoists killed, one of the most notable was Vivek, a senior Maoist leader who had a reward of Rs 1 crore on his head. Vivek was allegedly involved in several violent activities in the region and had been evading capture for a long time. His death marks a significant victory for the security forces in the ongoing battle against the Maoist insurgents.
Jharkhand’s Director General of Police (DGP), Anurag Gupta, confirmed that Vivek was among the eight Maoists killed in the encounter. He added that the troops had recovered several weapons from the site, including one AK series rifle, one SLR (Self Loading Rifle), three INSAS rifles, one pistol, and eight country-made Bharmar rifles.
Weapons Recovered and Ongoing Search Operations
In addition to the weapons, the security forces are continuing their search operations in the area to gather more information and ensure that no other Maoist rebels are hiding in the vicinity. The CRPF has stated that the firing from the Maoists stopped following the encounter, and the area is now secure.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the encounter and are trying to determine if any more Maoists were involved in the clash. As of now, the focus is on ensuring that the area is cleared of any remaining threats.
This encounter in Bokaro comes just days after another violent attack on security forces in Jharkhand. On April 12, a jawan from the Jharkhand Jaguar force was killed in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast in the Chaibasa district of Jharkhand. Another CRPF jawan was injured during the same attack and is currently undergoing treatment. This attack, like many others, highlights the constant threat posed by Maoist insurgents in the region.
Earlier, on April 10, two CRPF jawans were injured in an IED blast during anti-Maoist operations in Jaraikela. Both jawans were airlifted to Ranchi for medical treatment.
A Continued Effort to Fight Maoist Insurgency
Maoist insurgents, also known as Naxals, have been active in several parts of India, particularly in the central and eastern states. These armed rebels aim to overthrow the government through violent means and have been engaged in a long-running insurgency in the country. Jharkhand, along with Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Bihar, remains a hotspot for Maoist activity.
The state government and security forces are continuously working to suppress Maoist activities through a combination of security operations, intelligence gathering, and the development of infrastructure in affected regions. However, the struggle remains challenging, with Maoists carrying out frequent attacks on security forces and civilians.
The killing of eight Maoists, including a prominent leader, in Bokaro is seen as a major success for the security forces in their ongoing efforts to combat the Maoist insurgency in Jharkhand. Despite the challenges posed by these armed rebels, the security forces remain committed to bringing peace and stability to the region. Authorities are continuing their search operations, and more details are expected to emerge in the coming days.
