A day after the horrific terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam left dozens dead, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday visited the site of the carnage in Baisaran meadow to personally assess the situation and oversee security operations.
Amit Shah arrived via helicopter and took an aerial survey of the affected region before landing in the lush but now bloodstained meadow. He walked through he area under tight security and received a detailed briefing from top security and intelligence officials on the current scenario and ongoing combing operations.
The visit comes amid a heightened state of alert across the Kashmir Valley, following what is now being described as one of the deadliest civilian attacks since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. Although the final casualty count has not yet been officially released, the scale of the assault has stunned the nation.
Before reaching Pahalgam, Amit Shah paid emotional tributes to the victims at a solemn ceremony held outside the Police Control Room in Srinagar. He also met grieving families of those who lost their lives in the targeted attack.
In a post on X, Shah wrote, “With a heavy heart, paid last respects to the deceased of the Pahalgam terror attack. Bharat will not bend to terror. The culprits of this dastardly terror attack will not be spared.”
Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has joined the probe. A special NIA team, led by a Deputy Inspector General-rank officer, visited the Baisaran meadow to assist the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The team is expected to carry out a thorough forensic analysis, secure evidence, and help in identifying the perpetrators behind the attack.
The attack, which took place just five kilometers from Pahalgam town in Anantnag district, has once again raised serious concerns over cross-border terrorism and the vulnerability of civilians in a region that has long struggled with militant violence. The Centre has vowed swift justice and an uncompromising stance against terrorism in all forms.
