In a swift and determined response to the horrifying Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians and left 20 severely injured, Anantnag Police have announced a cash reward of ₹20 lakh for any credible information that leads to the neutralisation of the terrorists behind the massacre.
The Tuesday attack, which unfolded in the tranquil Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam, has drawn sharp national outrage and widespread condemnation. The brutality of the strike, targeting innocent tourists, has shaken the entire country.
Responding to the gravity of the situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired an urgent Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting on Wednesday in New Delhi. Key cabinet members — Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and Home Minister Amit Shah — joined the high-level discussion. The committee focused on the current security landscape in Jammu and Kashmir and deliberated over both immediate actions and long-term counter-terror strategies.
While the top leadership met in the capital, the ground situation in Kashmir remained volatile.
In a major breakthrough on Wednesday, the Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Baramulla district, killing two terrorists who tried to breach Indian defences through the Uri Nala area in the Sarjeevan sector of North Kashmir, just hours after the Pahalgam massacre.
Elsewhere in the Valley, another encounter broke out in Kulgam’s Tangmarg area, where security forces, acting on intelligence inputs, launched a cordon-and-search operation. The situation quickly escalated after terrorists opened fire. As of now, no casualties have been reported, and the operation is still ongoing.
The series of back-to-back operations — from infiltration bids to counter-terrorism raids — underscores a renewed crackdown on terrorism in the region.
With both government and security forces united in their stand, the message is unequivocal: those who spill innocent blood will find no shelter, no escape.
