In the aftermath of the brutal terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which left 26 Hindus dead and several others injured, US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has expressed strong solidarity with India. Taking to social media platform X on Thursday, Gabbard extended her full support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“We stand in solidarity with India in the wake of the horrific Islamist terrorist attack, targeting and killing 26 Hindus in Pahalgam. My prayers and deepest sympathies are with those who lost a loved one, PM Narendra Modi, and with all the people of India. We are with you and support you as you hunt down those responsible for this heinous attack,” Gabbard posted.
The terror attack, which took place on April 22, targeted tourists at the Baisaran meadow in the popular tourist town of Pahalgam in south Kashmir. The assault is being described as one of the worst in the valley since the 2019 Pulwama attack, which had claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel.
Earlier on Thursday, during a press briefing, US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce declined to engage with a Pakistani journalist who raised questions about India-Pakistan border tensions in light of the Pahalgam attack. Bruce stated, “I am not going to be remarking on it. I appreciate this, and perhaps, we will come back to you with another subject. I will say nothing more on that situation. The President and the Secretary have said things, as have the deputy secretary; they have made their positions clear. I will not continue with something of that manner.”
A day after the incident, on April 23, former US President Donald Trump also condemned the attack and extended his support to Prime Minister Modi and the victims. He reiterated America’s commitment to stand with India in its fight against terrorism.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha met with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi in Srinagar on Friday. During the meeting, Sinha called for decisive action to not only bring the perpetrators of the Pahalgam massacre to justice but also to dismantle the broader terror infrastructure and ecosystem operating in the region.
