A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is currently unraveling a deeply disturbing case in Bhopal involving a gang of Muslim men accused of systematically trapping, sexually assaulting, and coercing Hindu girls into religious conversion. The investigation, initiated following an FIR filed on April 18th, has unearthed harrowing details of rape, blackmail, and the creation of obscene videos used for further exploitation.
Eight individuals have been apprehended in connection with the case, including the alleged ringleader, Farhan Khan. The other arrested accused are identified as Mohammad Saad, Arbaaz, Ayan, Shahrukh, Javed alias Bhaiyyu, Zoya, and Faizan. Authorities are actively pursuing five additional suspects whose names have surfaced during the investigation: Mohammad Ali, Abrar Khan, Hamid, Arshad, and Siraj.
Preliminary investigations have revealed a chilling modus operandi employed by Farhan Khan and his associates. According to police reports, victims were allegedly forced to consume marijuana, shown pornographic material, and then subjected to rape at knifepoint. The accused are also alleged to have recorded obscene videos of the victims, which were subsequently shared among themselves and used as tools for blackmail and continued sexual exploitation. Evidence of threats sent to the victims has been recovered from the mobile phones of the arrested individuals.
Among the victims identified so far are two sisters, both pursuing B.Tech degrees at the same college as the main accused, Farhan Khan. Their initial acquaintance with Khan reportedly stemmed from a mutual friend. In their statements to the police, the sisters recounted a horrifying ordeal. One sister alleged that Farhan took her to Hamid’s residence where he raped her and recorded an obscene video of the assault. When she resisted, she was reportedly threatened, forced to consume non-vegetarian food against her will, and pressured by Farhan to convert to Islam and marry him.
The other sister stated that Farhan introduced her to Mohammad Ali, who allegedly took her to his house and misbehaved with her. When she resisted his advances, she was raped, and Ali discreetly recorded the assault. She further alleged that Ali shared the obscene video with Farhan, who then began to blackmail her, coercing her into sexual relations with his friends. When she refused, Farhan allegedly lured her to Abrar’s house under false pretenses, where she was drugged and raped.
Further testimony from another victim, hailing from Indore and in Bhopal for her studies, has painted an even grimmer picture. She stated that she met Farhan during her first year of college and befriended him. She alleged that he later took her to a hotel and raped her, recording the assault. This video was then used to blackmail her and subject her to repeated rapes. The victim recounted an instance where Farhan allegedly held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her when she resisted his attempts. Fearing the public release of her videos, she was allegedly forced to introduce Farhan to her female friends. One such friend was subsequently allegedly raped by Sahil, a friend of Farhan, after the introduction. Similarly, Mohammad Ali is accused of raping another of the victim’s friends in a hotel within the Ashoka Garden area and recording the assault. The victim also accused Farhan of extorting money from her.
Her statement further detailed the alleged coercion she faced, including being forced to watch pornography. She claimed that Farhan would physically assault her in his car if she did not comply with his demands. She also stated that he kept a knife in his vehicle, which he used to issue death threats. Furthermore, she was allegedly pressured to convert to Islam and enter into marriage.
The investigation has also shed light on the involvement of other accused individuals. One victim identified Shahrukh, Ayan, and Zoya in her statement. She alleged that Shahrukh, a resident of Bairagarh in Bhopal, lured her into a relationship and subsequently raped her. He then allegedly coerced her minor friend into befriending his associate, Ayan. Following their acquaintance, Ayan allegedly raped the minor and recorded the assault. Shahrukh then allegedly used these videos to blackmail the initial victim, forcing her to meet his friend Arbaaz, who also allegedly raped her.
Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra, speaking to the media, highlighted a “well-thought-out pattern” emerging from the investigation. He stated that the police are actively working to identify and contact other potential victims. Obscene videos of numerous girls have been discovered on the mobile phones seized from the arrested accused.
This case bears a disturbing resemblance to previous incidents of sexual exploitation of Hindu girls by organized gangs of Muslim men reported in Ajmer and Beawar. Authorities are keen to understand the extent of this network and ensure justice for all the victims involved. The SIT’s investigation is ongoing, with a focus on gathering further evidence, recording victim testimonies, and apprehending the remaining suspects.
