KEY POINTS
- Congress questioned security, not terrorists.
- Silence on jihadist links raises doubts.
- Blame game over justice for victims.
In a horrifying terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, 26 innocent Hindu tourists were brutally killed by Islamic terrorists from The Resistance Force, a group linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. Survivors said the terrorists checked people’s ID cards, asked them to recite Islamic verses, and even forced men to undress to see if they were circumcised, all to confirm they were Hindus before killing them.
But instead of strongly condemning this anti-Hindu terror act, several Congress leaders and opposition politicians tried to divert attention and even defend the attackers. Their controversial statements have shocked the entire nation.
Saifuddin Soz Believes Pakistan’s Denial, Not India’s Intelligence
Congress leader and former Union Minister Saifuddin Soz openly said that India should trust Pakistan’s denial of involvement in the attack. He even opposed the Indian government’s decision to pause the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan, a country that continues to support terrorism. Soz ignored all proof and testimonies that show Pakistani terrorists were behind the killings.
Maharashtra Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar questioned the truth of survivors’ stories. He asked if terrorists really had time to ask for religion, as if it’s impossible to identify and target people during such an attack. This kind of insensitive statement tries to erase the religious hatred that motivated the killing of Hindus.
Veteran Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar said the Pahalgam attack happened due to “unresolved issues of Partition.” Instead of calling out the killers, he tried to shift the blame to historical events, giving Pakistan and terrorists a clean chit once again.
Congress Ministers Deny Religious Profiling
Congress leaders like R.B. Thimmapur and M Lakshmana from Karnataka claimed that terrorists never asked for religion. They even alleged that the BJP is politicising the attack. These remarks insult the survivors who saw their loved ones murdered for being Hindus.
Robert Vadra, husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi, made a shocking statement saying that the attack happened because Muslims feel uncomfortable due to the BJP’s Hindutva policies. He tried to justify the terrorists’ hate by blaming the victims and their religion instead of blaming the murderers.
TMC and BJD Follow the Same Path
Not just Congress, leaders from other opposition parties also joined the narrative. TMC leader Marjina Khatun falsely accused the BJP of planning the attack to create tension before elections. BJD MP Sujata Deo also defended the terrorists by saying they didn’t have time to ask for anyone’s religion, despite survivors clearly stating otherwise.
After facing huge backlash, the Congress party tried to distance itself from its own leaders’ statements. Party spokesperson Jairam Ramesh issued a clarification that individual remarks do not reflect the party’s position. But this half-hearted attempt at damage control failed to calm public anger.
The Pahalgam attack was clearly motivated by Islamic hatred against Hindus. Yet, Congress and other opposition leaders refused to acknowledge this fact. Their efforts to protect their vote banks and appease Muslim extremists endanger national unity and insult the memory of those killed.
Terrorism has no justification, and when political parties defend or excuse such acts, they betray the country. The Congress party’s silence and irresponsible statements have hurt the nation deeply. When Hindus are killed for their faith, why are leaders more worried about protecting the killers than giving justice to the victims?
