Drones and Missile Attacks: India’s High Alert Response
On Saturday morning, the Indian Army reported multiple Pakistani drones were intercepted over Amritsar’s Khasa Cantonment. An official statement from the Army said, “Pakistan’s blatant attempt to violate India’s sovereignty and endanger civilians is unacceptable.”
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi stated in a press briefing that Pakistan used drones, loitering munitions, long-range weapons, and fighter jets. She said, “They attacked over 26 locations from Baramulla to Bhuj, even damaging our equipment and personnel at Udhampur, Bhuj, Pathankot, and Bathinda air bases. They used high-speed missiles at 1:40 am to target Punjab’s air base and attacked health facilities and schools.”
Pakistan Targeted Civilian Infrastructure
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh said that Pakistan also targeted medical infrastructure at three locations in Jammu and Kashmir: Srinagar, Avantipur, and Udhampur. She added, “This shows the intent to harm not just military assets but also civilian life.”
Pakistani army spokespersons falsely claimed that Indian missiles had hit their airbases in Rawalpindi’s Chaklala, Chakwal, and Shorkot in Jhang. They also claimed to have destroyed India’s S-400 air defense system and struck Indian airfields in Surat and Sirsa.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh responded firmly: “We reject these false claims. No S-400 system or airfields were damaged. This is part of Pakistan’s continuous misinformation campaign.”
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri also dismissed the claims. “Pakistan’s allegations about targeting Indian defense systems are completely false.”
Due to the situation, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced the closure of 32 airports from May 9 to May 15, 5:29 am. The Airports Authority of India also suspended 25 segments of Air Traffic Service (ATS) routes within Delhi and Mumbai’s Flight Information Regions (FIRs).
The Indian Premier League (IPL) was also suspended, as confirmed by BCCI sources, because of rising security threats.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level security meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The meeting was held at the PM’s residence in Delhi to review the nation’s preparedness.
Pakistan’s shelling in Rajouri led to the death of Additional District Development Commissioner Raj Kumar Thapa. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah visited the affected areas and offered condolences at Thapa’s residence.
Meanwhile, a Pakistani drone crashed in a civilian area in Ferozepur, injuring members of a family, officials confirmed.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh also noted that Pakistani troops have been seen moving into forward areas, indicating their intention to escalate the conflict further. She said, “The Indian Armed Forces are fully prepared for any situation.”
Residents in cities such as Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur, Rajouri, Pathankot, and Baramulla reported explosions in the early hours of Saturday. In Pathankot, anti-aircraft guns were fired in response, and residents were asked to stay indoors under high alert.
The G7 foreign ministers issued a statement condemning the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam and urged both India and Pakistan to de-escalate the situation and resolve matters diplomatically.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir and called for both sides to show restraint. He offered US support in facilitating talks.
The Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy remain on high alert. Colonel Sofiya Qureshi said, “We will continue to thwart enemy designs.” The Indian government has made it clear that Pakistan’s lies and attacks will not go unanswered, and national security will not be compromised under any circumstances.
