- India and Pakistan agreed to a halt in military actions after India’s strikes on May 6–7
Amid escalating tension between India-Pakistan following the Pahalgam terrorists attack in which 26 were brutally killed on April 22, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the countrymen on Monday and praised the Indian armed forces for their bravery during Operation Sindoor, a military operation launched by India. PM Modi’s address came just a few days after India and Pakistan agreed to stop all military actions on land, in the air, and at sea. The agreement to cease fire came after India carried out Operation Sindoor as a response to the terror attack in Pahalgam.
The Prime Minister thanked the soldiers and said the country is proud of their courage and sacrifice. In his address, he said that in the past few days, the country has seen both India’s strength and patience. PM Modi praised the Indian armed forces, intelligence teams, and scientists for their efforts and bravery. He said their courage during Operation Sindoor showed how strong and determined our soldiers are. He dedicated this bravery to every mother, sister, and daughter in the country.
The Prime Minister strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. He said it was a shocking and brutal act that hurt not only India but also shocked people around the world. In the attack, innocent tourists were killed in front of their families and children after being asked about their religion.
PM Modi said this was not only an act of cruelty, but also a dirty attempt to disturb peace and unity in the country. He shared that he felt deep pain about the attack and that the entire country came together—people from all communities, backgrounds, and political parties—to demand strong action against terrorism.
“The government gave the army complete freedom to take action and fight the terrorists. He also gave a clear warning to terrorist groups: if anyone tries to harm the dignity of India’s women, they will have to face serious consequences”, said PM Modi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that “Operation Sindoor” is not just a name, but a symbol of the strong feelings of millions of Indians. He called it a promise to deliver justice, and said the whole world saw this promise being fulfilled on May 6 and 7.
He explained that the Indian armed forces carried out accurate attacks on terrorist camps and training centers in Pakistan, causing heavy damage. The Prime Minister said that the terrorists never expected such a bold step from India, but when the country stands together with the belief of “Nation First”, strong actions are taken, and strong results follow.

He said India used missiles and drones to strike terrorist bases in Pakistan, which not only destroyed their buildings but also broke their confidence. The Prime Minister mentioned that places like Bahawalpur and Muridke in Pakistan have been running terrorist activities for a long time, and were linked to big global attacks like the 9/11 attacks in the U.S., the London Tube bombings, and many years of terrorism in India.
He said that because the terrorists had attacked the dignity of Indian women, India responded by destroying the main hubs of terrorism. The operation killed over 100 dangerous terrorists, including top leaders who had been planning attacks on India for many years. He confirmed that those who threatened India have now been eliminated.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India’s strong and accurate strikes made Pakistan very frustrated and desperate. Instead of helping in the fight against terrorism, Pakistan reacted by attacking Indian schools, colleges, temples, gurudwaras, homes, and military bases, he added. He explained that Pakistan’s attacks failed badly. Their drones and missiles were easily stopped by India’s advanced air defense systems. While Pakistan was planning to hit India’s borders, India struck deep into Pakistan, hitting their main bases. Indian missiles and drones destroyed several important Pakistani airbases, which Pakistan had long bragged about.
In just the first three days, Pakistan faced major destruction—much more than it expected. After India’s strong response, Pakistan started asking the international community for help to reduce tensions. On May 10, Pakistan’s army contacted India’s top military officer (DGMO), asking for peace. By that time, India had already destroyed many terrorist bases and killed top terrorists. Pakistan promised that it would stop terrorist activities and military attacks against India.
Because of this promise, India paused its military operations, but the Prime Minister made it clear that this is not the end. India will keep watching Pakistan’s actions closely to make sure it keeps its word. PM Modi said that India’s military forces—Army, Air Force, Navy, BSF, and paramilitary—are fully alert and ready to protect the country. He said Operation Sindoor is now part of India’s permanent strategy to fight terrorism and sets a new standard for dealing with such threats.
He shared three main rules of India’s new security policy:
Strong Response to Terror Attacks – If there is a terrorist attack on India, there will be a powerful reply. India will target the terrorists at their base.
No Fear of Nuclear Threats – India will not be scared by nuclear warnings. If terrorists hide behind such threats, they will still be targeted.
No Difference Between Terrorists and Their Supporters – India will treat terrorists and the governments that support them as one and the same. He said that senior military officials in Pakistan were seen attending funerals of terrorists, which proves that Pakistan supports terrorism.
The Prime Minister said India will keep taking strong steps to protect its people.
He also said that India has always been victorious against Pakistan in wars, and Operation Sindoor shows India’s growing strength. He pointed out that India is now strong in both desert and mountain battles, and is also becoming a leader in modern warfare.
He proudly shared that Made in India defense equipment performed extremely well during the operation, proving that India’s defense systems are now powerful and ready for 21st-century warfare. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India’s biggest strength in the fight against terrorism is the unity of its people. He reminded everyone that while this time in history is not meant for war, it should also not be a time for terrorism. He said clearly, “Zero tolerance for terrorism is the only way to create a better and safer world.”
He strongly criticized Pakistan’s government and army, saying they have supported terrorism for a long time. He warned that if Pakistan continues like this, it will only bring harm to itself. He said Pakistan must shut down all terrorist bases if it wants peace—there is no other option.
The Prime Minister repeated India’s clear stand:
Terrorism and peace talks cannot happen together
Terrorism and trade cannot go side by side
Bloodshed and sharing of water cannot happen at the same time
He also said that any future talks with Pakistan will only focus on terrorism, and if there are negotiations, they will be about Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). On Monday night, after the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation. He made it clear that India has created a new policy on dealing with terrorism from Pakistan. He said that “Operation Sindoor” is not over but only paused, because Pakistan asked the world to help reduce tensions after suffering major damage from India’s strong military action.
Modi said, “We have set a new normal. If there is a terror attack on India, we will respond strongly. We will hit back at every place that supports or hides terrorists. We will not be scared of nuclear threats. And we will no longer treat terrorist groups and the governments that support them as separate.” He added that Pakistan felt “helpless and hopeless” after India’s strikes. In desperation, Pakistan attacked Indian schools, temples, gurudwaras, homes, and army bases. But these attacks failed. India’s strong air defense system shot down Pakistan’s drones and missiles. Modi said, “Pakistan planned to hit our borders, but we struck deep inside their country. Our drones and missiles damaged their air bases badly. In just three days, we caused more damage than they expected.”
He said that after this, Pakistan started asking the world for help to stop the tension. By then, India had already destroyed terror camps and killed top terrorists. When Pakistan promised to stop further attacks, India paused its military operation. But the Prime Minister made it clear: India will keep watching Pakistan’s actions very closely.
Since it was Buddha Purnima, Modi said Lord Buddha had shown the path of peace. But he also said, “The path to peace also comes from strength.” He added that if India ever talks to Pakistan in the future, it will only be about terrorism and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The Prime Minister said the Indian Army, Air Force, Navy, BSF, and paramilitary forces are always alert and ready. He mentioned that Pakistani army officers were seen attending funerals of killed terrorists, showing how deeply the country supports terrorism.
Modi said, “We have defeated Pakistan in every war before, and with Operation Sindoor, we have added a new chapter in our military strength.” He repeated that although this is not an age of war, it cannot be an age of terrorism either. He warned that if Pakistan keeps supporting terrorists, it will lead to its own destruction. He said, “Terror and peace talks can’t happen at the same time. Terror and trade can’t go together. Blood and water can’t flow together.”
At the end, the Prime Minister praised the Indian soldiers and dedicated their bravery to the mothers and daughters of India. Referring to the Pahalgam terror attack, he said people were killed in front of their families just because of their religion. “This was an attack on our unity,” he said. After that, the government gave full freedom to the military to take action. PM Modi ended by saying, “Now every terrorist group knows what will happen if they try to harm our women. Operation Sindoor is a promise of justice.”
