KEY POINTS
- Indian Armed Forces protected border cities from Pakistani drone and missile attacks
- AKASH missiles and L-70 guns shielded the Golden Temple and Punjab cities
- Operation Sindoor launched after the Pahalgam terror attack
While the tensions were going on between India and Pakistan, the Indian Armed Forces showed great bravery by protecting several cities near the border. Pakistan tried to attack India using drones and missiles, but these were destroyed before they could cause any damage to civilian areas. The Indian Army’s Air Defence systems played a significant role in stopping these attacks.
The Army showed how their defence systems, like the AKASH missile system and L-70 Air Defence Guns, protected important places such as the Golden Temple in Amritsar and other cities in Punjab on Monday. Major General Kartik C Seshadri, who leads the 15 Infantry Division, said that the Indian Army had received information from intelligence agencies that Pakistan planned to target both military and civilian areas, including holy places like the Golden Temple. The Army quickly moved more advanced air defence systems to make sure the Golden Temple was fully protected.
He shared that on the early morning of May 8, Pakistan launched a major air attack using drones and long-range missiles. However, the Indian Army was already prepared and ready. All the missiles and drones were shot down by the soldiers in the Air Defence unit before they could harm the Golden Temple. Major General Seshadri also talked about the Pahalgam terror attack, where innocent tourists were killed by terrorists supported by the Pakistan Army. This led India to launch Operation Sindoor, in which the Indian Army attacked nine terrorist camps deep inside Pakistan. Out of these, seven were completely destroyed by Indian Army strikes.
Two of the main places targeted were Muridke (near Lahore), where Lashkar-e-Tayyaba has its headquarters, and Bahawalpur, where Jaish-e-Mohammed is based. These were hit with high accuracy. The Army made it clear that no Pakistani civilian or military buildings were targeted — only terror camps were attacked. During this conflict, India’s Air Defence Systems proved to be very strong and reliable. They successfully intercepted and destroyed many drones, missiles, and other aerial weapons sent by Pakistan. These defence systems showed that they are not only powerful for India’s safety but also respected globally.
How Pakistan Lost Its Airborne Warning And Control System During Operation Sindoor?
Operation Sindoor was a big success for India as it caused heavy losses to Pakistan, and now even Pakistani officials admitted it. A former Air Marshal of Pakistan recently said that Pakistan lost an important Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft. This aircraft was destroyed in an Indian missile strike on the Bholari airbase, which is near Karachi.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani government tried to spread lies and false news, claiming that India had suffered major damage. Their aim was to create fear and chaos among the Indian people. However, India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) and many defence officials have clearly denied these false claims and proved them wrong with facts. India’s powerful response during Operation Sindoor has shown the strength and readiness of its armed forces, while Pakistan’s attempts at spreading fake news have failed.
What Did The Pakistani Ex-Air Marshal Reveal?
In an interview, former Pakistani Air Marshal Masood Akhtar admitted that India’s missile strike damaged a very important Pakistani aircraft. This aircraft, called AWACS, helps in tracking enemy aircraft and guiding air attacks. He said that Indian forces fired four missiles one after the other. These were either BrahMos surface-to-surface or air-to-surface missiles. Pakistani pilots tried to move the AWACS aircraft to safety, but the missiles kept coming. The fourth missile hit the hangar (the building where aircraft are kept) at Bholari airbase, where the AWACS was parked, and it was damaged.
India’s defence officials confirmed this strike, and satellite images from Maxar Technologies also showed proof of the damage. The Bholari airbase, near Karachi, is Pakistan’s newest and most modern airbase. It was opened in December 2017 and is known for being very advanced. In 2020, it was the location for a joint air exercise with China, called ‘Shaheen IX’. This missile strike by India was a serious blow to Pakistan’s air defence system.
About Airborne Warning and Control System
The AWACS is a special aircraft with a powerful radar that can fly long distances and move from place to place. It plays a significant role in helping Pakistan watch the skies and guide its air defence system. India destroyed one of Pakistan’s AWACS aircraft on May 8. This was a response to Pakistan’s attempt to attack Indian military bases in places like Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur.
India weakened Pakistan’s ability to monitor the air and manage its defence operations during battle by hitting the AWACS. The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has nine special aircraft called Saab 2000 Erieye AWACS. These aircraft are also known as Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) planes. They have a powerful Erieye radar that can watch the sky in a 270-degree range. These aircraft help Pakistan by keeping an eye on enemy movements in the air. The last of these nine aircraft was delivered on July 2, 2024.
In simple terms, AWACS aircraft work like flying command centres. They spot threats early, guide fighter jets during air battles, and send real-time information to military commanders and defence units. This makes them very important for air defence and battlefield planning.
