UAE Ambassador to India, Abdulnasser Alshaali, expressed confidence in India’s organizational abilities, citing India’s successful management of the G20 meetings as a learning curve. Alshaali believes India is well-equipped to handle the COP28 presidency, citing the country’s capabilities to navigate logistical challenges.

In an interview, Ambassador Alshaali highlighted the collaborative efforts between India and the UAE in addressing climate change. He emphasized the strong bilateral relationship, showcasing alignment between the G20 summit and the COP28 presidency in addressing climate issues collaboratively. The ongoing COP28 in Dubai has seen significant achievements, including the operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund.

India’s active participation in crucial declarations related to climate, such as climate health and climate finance, was underscored by Alshaali. He noted that over 130 countries signed the Food and Agriculture Declaration, more than 120 countries signed the Climate Health Declaration, and 13 countries, including India, signed the Climate Finance Declaration.

Reflecting on the meeting between PM Modi and the UAE President during COP28, Alshaali stated that discussions encompassed various topics, with a focus on the COP28 presidency and climate action. He emphasized that such discussions contribute to the progression of the bilateral relationship.

Additionally, Alshaali confirmed the UAE’s participation in the Gujarat Vibrant Summit upon India’s invitation. He expressed his intention to be present at the summit, highlighting the UAE’s partnership with Vibrant Gujarat.

PM Modi’s participation in the ongoing World Climate Action Summit of COP28 in the UAE was mentioned, where he proposed India’s commitment to host COP33 in 2028. During the opening ceremony, PM Modi highlighted India’s efforts to meet the Intended Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) as part of the global initiative to combat climate change.
