Sonia Gandhi, the Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, is likely to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Telangana’s Chief Minister-designate and state party chief, Revanth Reddy, scheduled for December 7. Sonia Gandhi, responding to queries during the parliament’s winter session, indicated her probable attendance in Hyderabad for the ceremony.
After two days of suspense, the Congress central leadership officially named Revanth Reddy as its choice for the Chief Minister of Telangana. In a meeting with Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi, Reddy greeted Kharge with bouquets and a shawl.
Rahul Gandhi, another prominent Congress leader, congratulated Reddy and shared photos of Reddy with Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. In a social media post, Rahul Gandhi expressed his confidence that under Reddy’s leadership, the Congress government in Telangana would fulfill its commitments to the people.
Revanth Reddy, known for his criticism of outgoing Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, played a significant role in the Congress’ electoral efforts in Telangana. He won the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections in 2014 from the Kodangal seat and later joined Congress in 2017.
In June 2021, he was appointed as the president of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee. The Congress, under his leadership, secured an absolute majority in Telangana, winning 64 out of 119 seats in the recent elections.
