The Tata Group is planning something big in Assam! They’ve applied to establish a semiconductor processing plant in the state, and they’re putting a whopping Rs 40,000 crore into it. The Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for guiding the transformation of the state. This move is expected to be a game-changer for Assam’s economic landscape.
Chief Minister Sarma recently launched the Mukhya Mantri Atmanirbhar Asom portal to kick off the application process for the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Assam Abhiyan. The goal is to boost self-employment opportunities and make the youth of Assam self-reliant. The initiative, launched on September 23, aims to empower two lakh youth for entrepreneurial ventures. Beneficiaries stand to receive Rs 2 lakhs in two installments—a combination of government grants and interest-free loans to set up micro-enterprises or service units.
The scheme is targeting two lakh eligible beneficiaries over the next two years. Each youth will receive Rs 2 lakh, with Rs 1 lakh as a government subsidy and the remaining Rs 1 lakh to be returned without interest after five years of business. This initiative not only aims to provide financial empowerment but also makes these youth eligible for other loans from the central government. The web portal for the scheme has already seen the registration of 2,29,145 beneficiaries.
In addition, 1591 youth with professional degrees will be entitled to a loan of Rs 5 lakh under the scheme, with 50% as a government subsidy and the remaining 50% as an interest-free loan. Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the robust industrial climate that the state has been experiencing, emphasizing the positive economic outlook for Assam.
