There was a big security problem at the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Bharat’s Parliament. The day after this happened, they changed how security works there. This is similar to what happens at airports, where they often ask people to open their shoes during security checks. The change came after two guys, Manoranjan D and Sagar Sharma, broke into the Lok Sabha. They jumped from the visitors’ gallery and set off smoke cans hidden in their shoes.
This new security rule applies to everyone, not just regular people, but also Parliament staff and media with passes. The media also has to stay about 50-60 meters away from the ‘Makar Dwar,’ one of the main gates where most lawmakers enter. The breach led to the arrest of four people, with charges under the anti-terror Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
Because of this security mess, the Secretary General of Lok Sabha wrote to the Ministry of Home Affairs asking for a review of security. They decided not to issue passes for the visitors’ gallery until things get sorted. The Ministry of Home Affairs set up a committee to look into the breach. The committee will figure out why security failed, find mistakes, and suggest ways to improve. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also met with political leaders to talk about the security problem and promised to review it.
The security breach happened on the 22nd anniversary of a terror attack on the Parliament. The two people who broke in during the Parliament session released yellow gas and shouted slogans before the lawmakers stopped them. The incident caused the House to be adjourned until 2 pm that day. At the same time, two other people sprayed colored gas and shouted slogans outside the Parliament premises.
