Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has proposed to conduct a comprehensive census for the Muslim community for “empowering” them.
Addressing a media event, Dr Himanta expressed, “Hindus are our brothers, but Muslims are elder brothers. It is crucial for them to be strong.”
While scrutinising and questioning the focus of Congress and Opposition alliance on the caste census of Hindus, he affirmed that “Hindus have now awakened, pledging not to be divided” at same time stressing upon unity, “We are one, we have two brothers – Hindu and Muslim.”
Dr Himanta took a jibe at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and remarked that his strategy backfired in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. He questioned the timing of discussions about the OBC census, suggesting that these issues erupt only during election time.
He highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s longstanding advocacy for justice for Pasmanda Muslims and stressed the necessity of a caste census within Muslim community.
At the event, CM Himanta declared that the State would pass a groundbreaking law on February 4, 2024, prohibiting polygamy. He spoke about the importance of CAA and NRC for the country, asserting that the processes would be executed seamlessly once under the jurisdiction of the Home Minister and at the same time underlined that these measures were crucial for the nation’s welfare.
