The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Tapas Roy of being closely associated with Lalit Jha, the alleged mastermind behind the recent Parliament security breach. Roy dismissed these claims as “childish,” stating that he doesn’t know Jha by name or face and that the photo posted by BJP’s Sukanta Majumdar was taken four years ago during Saraswati Pooja.
Majumdar, the BJP West Bengal chief, called for an inquiry into the alleged connection between Roy and Jha, emphasizing the need to investigate if there is a larger conspiracy. He mentioned several photos of TMC and Congress leaders with Jha and suggested coordination with the INDI Alliance. Roy responded by questioning the significance of a photograph and accused the BJP of engaging in politics with a single picture.
The security breach occurred on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack. Two individuals jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber, released gas, and shouted anti-establishment slogans. Two protestors outside the Parliament also used gas canisters. All four were sent to seven-day custody. Lalit Jha, the alleged mastermind, revealed during interrogation that preparations for the attack had been ongoing for months, and he had been monitoring developments from a hotel in Rajasthan.
To gather more information, the Special Cell of Delhi Police has formed six teams to visit locations linked to the accused in Lucknow, Mysore, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Haryana. The investigation uncovered that special shoes were ordered in Lucknow, as they realized shoes were not thoroughly checked in Parliament, providing an easy way to carry smoke canisters inside. The police plan to recreate the scene of the security breach at the Parliament complex with the accused to understand how they entered and executed their plan.
