A security breach in the Parliament on December 13, is causing quite a stir. The Speaker, Om Birla formed a high-level committee to look into the incident, but the opposition parties are demanding a statement from the Union home minister, Amit Shah.
During the proceedings, the opposition MPs brought placards with their demands, which the Speaker didn’t like. He felt it lowered the dignity of the House. Birla urged the opposition to cooperate and discuss important issues rather than resorting to sloganeering and protests.
The Speaker clarified that the suspension of some opposition members wasn’t related to the December 13 incident but due to them bringing placards into the House. He emphasized that the security of Parliament falls under the Lok Sabha secretariat, and a committee is already investigating the breach.
Birla and the parliamentary affairs minister, Pralhad Joshi, requested opposition members not to wave placards, but their appeals were ignored. The opposition continued their protests and slogans, leading to the Speaker adjourning the House until noon.
The opposition was also demanding action against a BJP MP, Pratap Simha, who authorized visitor passes for the two men involved in the security breach. The Speaker assured that security enhancements were being implemented based on suggestions from an all-party meeting.
In response to the disruptions, 12 Lok Sabha MPs and one Rajya Sabha MP were suspended for the rest of the session. The incident involved two men jumping into the Lok Sabha chamber, releasing colored smoke, and shouting slogans before being overpowered by MPs. It’s a serious matter, and the political drama surrounding it is causing quite a commotion in the Parliament.
