Lok Sabha, faced some disruptions in its proceedings. The members of the opposition expressed their discontent by raising slogans and holding placards. The Speaker, Om Birla, tried to restore order, urging them to follow the rules and participate in the Question Hour. However, the opposition members continued with their disruptions, leading to the adjournment of the House till noon.
The situation escalated when the Speaker adjourned the Lower House till noon due to a ruckus caused by opposition MPs. They were particularly upset about a security breach in Parliament and the suspension of some fellow members. The Speaker emphasized the importance of maintaining the dignity of the House and urged members to take their seats. Despite his appeals, the opposition members continued their disruptions, even displaying placards, which are not allowed in the House.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi claimed that the opposition members went to the extent of bringing morphed photos of Prime Minister Narendra Modi into the House. He condemned this action and stated that it was a desperate move after the recent Assembly elections. The Speaker later adjourned the Lower House till 12, attempting to control the situation.
In response to the suspensions, the opposition MPs staged protests both inside and outside the Parliament premises. They were joined by Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi. The suspended members raised slogans against the government and protested at various locations, expressing their dissatisfaction with the handling of the Parliament security breach incident.
The suspension of 78 opposition MPs, 33 from Lok Sabha and 45 from Rajya Sabha, marked the largest such action in the history of the Indian Parliament. Their suspension was attributed to ‘misconduct’ and failure to adhere to the directions of the Chair. Additionally, 13 members were removed earlier, bringing the total number of suspended lawmakers for the remainder of the Winter Session to 92. The situation remains tense, with the opposition demanding a statement from Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the security breach.
