In a somber announcement, the Bharat Army’s 16 Corps, also known as the White Knight Corps, expressed its deep sorrow and saluted the bravery of four soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in a terror attack. The 16 Corps took to the social media platform X to share the heartbreaking news. In a post, they stated, “#IndianArmy and #Whiteknight Corps salutes the bravery and supreme sacrifice of four soldiers in #Surankote on 21 Dec 23 while fighting the scourge of terrorism.” The soldiers lost their lives in the line of duty, underscoring the inherent risks faced by the armed forces.
The attack occurred in the forest area of Dera ki Gali in the Rajouri district on the evening of December 21. Heavily armed terrorists ambushed two Army vehicles carrying troops in Thanamandi, Rajouri. The assailants targeted the convoy, leading to tragic consequences for the brave soldiers.
According to an Army official, the incident transpired around 3:45 pm when two Army vehicles carrying troops were en route to the operational site. The terrorists opened fire on the convoy, prompting an immediate and fierce retaliation from the Indian Army troops. The exchange of gunfire resulted in casualties and injuries among the soldiers.
The Army personnel were on their way to reinforce a joint operation against terrorists that had been ongoing in the area since the previous evening. The operations were part of a larger effort involving the 48 Rashtriya Rifles to combat and eliminate the looming threat of terrorism in the region.
