As chilly temperatures and thick fog envelop northern India, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has issued new guidelines to regulate passenger bus operations during low visibility conditions. In response to a series of accidents reported on Wednesday, the UPSRTC officials emphasize that buses should not operate when visibility is poor due to fog.
To ensure safety, the corporation advises bus operators to park their vehicles at secure locations and wait until visibility improves. Staff stationed at bus stands have been assigned the task of monitoring major routes, promptly alerting operators and preventing them from running buses until conditions improve.
On Wednesday, a significant collision occurred on the Agra-Lucknow expressway due to a dense fog layer, resulting in injuries to several commuters. Another incident in Raebareli involved a high-speed truck colliding into a house on the Bareli-Sultanpur Highway, causing property damage though no injuries were reported.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert forecasting the impact of dense to very dense fog in the night and morning hours over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh from December 28 to December 30. Satellite images released by the IMD depict the extensive fog layer spanning Punjab to East Uttar Pradesh, including Haryana-Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, extreme north Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh.
The IMD has also issued a dense fog advisory for Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, north Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh. In light of the advisory, the public is urged to exercise caution while driving or venturing out through any means of transportation. Additionally, drivers are advised to use fog lights, and individuals planning air or rail travel are encouraged to stay updated with airlines, railways, and state transport for any changes in their journey schedules.
