Inching close to their efforts of mitigating militancy issue, State Police have taken into custody individuals linked to the United Liberation Front of Assam-Independent or ULFA-I faction for their alleged role in three grenade explosions.
Totally, eight suspected linkmen have been captured in Sivasagar district and two each in Tinsukia and Jorhat districts.
The ULFA-I had taken the responsibility of carrying out the grenade blasts in three districts of Tinsukia, Sivasagar and Jorhat respectively on November 22, December 9 and December 13.
Assam Police force’s meticulous endeavours and operation, running over many weeks, garnered appreciations by Assam Director General of Police or DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh.
Other than arresting the perpetrators, the Assam Police seized motorcycles used in the grenade hurling incidents during the operation.
Divulging more details, DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh shared that people provoking these perpetrators via online platforms have also been identified. They will be immediately brought to book from any corner they are hiding in.
He further shared in due course of time, “the evidence would be presented in appropriate court of law”.
Extending compliments and expressing gratitude to the Assam Police, the DGP stated, they “remain steadfast in their determination to protect the people of the State from all violent crimes at all personal and professional cost” adding, “We resolve to keep the Assam Police flag flying high.”
The first grenade was hurled close to the Diram Army Camp in Tinsukia, second blast occurred near a Central Reserve Police Force camp in Sivasagar and in Jorhat town.
Another planned was thwarted as the police recovered a grenade and seized documents pointing towards links of the arrested individuals with outlawed organizations.
Taking note of the seriousness of the case, the National Investigation Agency or NIA began a probe into these blasts.
