In a groundbreaking move, the Gujarat government has partnered with Mazgaon Dock Limited (MDL) to launch India’s inaugural submarine tourism initiative. The project is set to explore the marine life surrounding Bet Dwarka, a small island off the coast of Dwarka city, known for its mythological significance in Hinduism.

Inspired by Titanic Submersible Expedition

Drawing inspiration from the Titanic submersible expedition, the Gujarat government’s venture aims to provide tourists with a unique underwater experience. The tragic implosion of one of the Titanic vessels in the Atlantic Ocean has brought attention to the depths of exploration, and Gujarat seeks to offer a safer and awe-inspiring journey for enthusiasts.

Operational Before Diwali 2024

Anticipated to be operationalized before Diwali 2024, the submarine tourism facility will allow tourists to dive 100 meters below the sea to witness the mesmerizing marine life around Bet Dwarka. The island is believed to house a submerged city, a creation attributed to Lord Krishna according to mythological texts.

Official Announcement at Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit

An official announcement regarding the project is expected to be made during the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit. The submarine, weighing approximately 35 tonnes, is designed to accommodate 30 passengers. Tourists will be seated in two rows with window seats, providing a convenient and breathtaking view of the underwater world.

Significant Boost to Tourism in Dwarka

Saurabh Pardhi, the managing director of Gujarat Tourism, emphasized the uniqueness of the project, stating that it will bring a significant boost to tourism in the city. Dwarka, already a popular destination due to its religious significance, attracts tourists each year, with the Dwarkadhish Temple being a prominent pilgrimage site for Hindus.

In summary, the introduction of submarine tourism in Gujarat marks a pioneering step in Bharat’s tourism industry, promising an unforgettable journey into the depths of the sea, coupled with the exploration of mythological wonders around Bet Dwarka. With safety and tourism enhancement at its core, the project is poised to make waves and attract visitors seeking a one-of-a-kind underwater adventure.
