In what is being described as “One of the largest missile attacks” on Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in February 2022, Moscow launched 122 missiles and a score of drones against Ukraine, killing 31 civilians and wounding more than 120 people. The Ukrainian Air Force stated that out of the total 158 aerial targets fired by Russia, it shot down 87 cruise missiles and 27 drones.
“Russia attacked with possibly everything it had in its arsenal,” said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky adding that approximately 110 missiles were fired, of which most of them were shot down. Army Chief General Valeriy Zaluzhnyi informed that missile attacks targeted critical infrastructure and military facilities. The Energy Ministry reported that power outages were reported in the regions of Southern Odessa, north-eastern Kharkiv, and the area outside Kyiv.
United States President, Joe Biden condemned Russia and said that the missile attack was a stark reminder to the world that even though it is going to be two years to the war, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s objectives remain unchanged. Stating that Putin must stop, Biden added that the Russian President seeks to obliterate Ukraine and subjugate its people.
It is imperative to note here that Poland’s armed forces chief believes that before turning into Ukrainian airspace, Russian missiles entered the Polish airspace for almost three minutes and traveled about 40 km. This coincided with what Ukraine claimed to be the biggest air strikes since the beginning of the war, leaving the NATO nation scared.
President Andrzej Duda convened an emergency security meeting after Russian missiles were detected in Polish airspace. Nearly 200 police officials conducted an extensive search in the region to detect in case any missile landed in the Polish territory.
