In a significant move, the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Department of Fertilizers, has given the green light for a groundbreaking development in the fertilizer sector. A recent notification directed to the Managing Directors/Chief Managing Directors of all fertilizer manufacturing companies reveals the approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on June 28, 2023. This approval paves the way for the introduction of sulphur-coated urea, set to be launched under the brand name “Urea Gold.”
The official notification outlines that the new Sulphur Coated Urea will be packaged in 40 kg bags, bringing an exciting twist to the fertilizer market. What’s even more exciting is the pricing strategy for “Urea Gold,” mirroring that of the 45 kg bags of Neem Coated Urea. The Maximum Retail Price (MRP) for a 40 kg bag of “Urea Gold” is set at Rs 266.50, inclusive of GST.
This strategic pricing decision is in line with the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable and innovative agricultural practices. Sulphur-coated Urea is anticipated to play a crucial role in enhancing soil health, optimizing nutrient release, and ensuring improved crop yields.
Importantly, the decision to keep the pricing on par with Neem Coated Urea is a concerted effort to encourage the adoption of environmentally friendly fertilizers without imposing an additional financial burden on farmers. This move reflects the government’s dedication to supporting the agricultural sector, a backbone of the Indian economy, with progressive and eco-friendly solutions.
“Urea Gold” is poised to be a game-changer, meeting the evolving needs of the farming community while addressing environmental concerns associated with traditional fertilizers. The announcement has generated optimism among farmers and industry experts, who foresee a positive impact of Sulphur Coated Urea on crop health, nutrient management, and overall agricultural productivity.
The Ministry’s notification is seen as a catalyst for fertilizer manufacturers to align their production and distribution strategies with this new offering, heralding a new era in sustainable agriculture practices. As the market eagerly awaits the availability of “Urea Gold,” there is anticipation of a positive transformation in the fertilizer landscape and agricultural outcomes in the near future.
