In a three-day visit to Bharat, Lord Tariq Ahmad, the British Minister of State for the Middle East, South Asia, UN, and the Prime Minister’s Special Representative on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict, is set to launch two UK-funded sustainability projects. The initiatives will be unveiled at the ongoing Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet (TNGIM). Lord Ahmad will also visit Ahmedabad and participate in Vibrant Gujarat, an innovation-focused summit.
One of the projects focuses on mitigating extreme heat-related deaths and the loss of vital ecosystems in Tamil Nadu. The British minister will collaborate with the State Planning Commission to provide recommendations to address these challenges. Additionally, an Electronic and Battery Waste Management project will be launched in partnership with the Tamil Nadu Department of Environment and Climate Change, aiming to reduce battery waste and develop an effective waste management plan.
Lord Ahmad expressed his enthusiasm for the innovative strides taken by Tamil Nadu and Gujarat in emerging technologies. He emphasized the importance of the strong UK-India trade partnership and aims to explore new collaborations, particularly in the areas of clean energy growth. The minister plans to promote joint innovation projects with dynamic Indian businesses, spanning renewable manufacturing to financial services.
During the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet, Lord Ahmad is scheduled to deliver a keynote speech highlighting the success of UK-India projects in climate and energy. The British minister will showcase the sustainable success of British businesses overseas and witness how they are supporting clean growth in India.
At the Vibrant Gujarat summit, Lord Ahmad will celebrate the close ties between the UK and India across business, culture, and people. A significant moment will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the UK’s Abertay University and India’s Ecole Intuit Lab. This partnership aims to share teaching, research, and innovation expertise between the two organizations, fostering collaboration in the education sector.
Overall, Lord Ahmad’s visit underscores the commitment to sustainable development, collaboration on climate and energy projects, and the strengthening of ties between the UK and two of India’s largest economies, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
