January 11th holds profound historical significance in the annals of Bharat and the global narrative, witnessing pivotal events that have left an indelible mark on history. Let’s delve into the historical tapestry of January 11th.

1. On January 11, 1613, with the permission of Mughal ruler Jahangir, the East India Company opened its first factory in Surat. Quilts, mattresses, and clothes were produced in this factory. However, the company gradually expanded its business in Bharat and took control of the country. Simultaneously, Jahangir had initially granted permission to the company as part of his special strategy, but later found himself ensnared by it. From 1618 to 1750, Jahangir and the British jointly captured most of the Hindu kingdoms in Bharat. Jahangir continued to believe that the British shared his objectives, but their goal was not to assist Jahangir or conduct trade; instead, the British aimed to seize control of Bharat.

2. On January 11, 1973, the former captain and current coach of the Bharatiya cricket team, Rahul Dravid, was born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Rahul Dravid, known as the ‘Wall of Cricket,’ achieved numerous records in his career. He holds the world record for spending the most time at the crease in Test cricket. Additionally, he has played the most number of balls in the history of Test cricket, facing 31,258 balls. Dravid earned the nickname ‘The Wall’ due to these remarkable records.

3. On January 11, 1966, the country’s second Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri, passed away in Tashkent. Under Shastri’s leadership, Bharat defeated Pakistan in the 1965 war. Subsequently, he went to Tashkent to sign an agreement to end the war with then-President of Pakistan Ayub Khan, where he died under suspicious circumstances. The mystery surrounding Lal Bahadur Shastri’s death remains unsolved. Shastri, who coined the slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan,’ had an incomparable personality. When he assumed office as Prime Minister, the country faced a wheat crisis and famine. To overcome this, Shastri introduced the slogan of ‘Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan’ and personally plowed the field to inspire farmers. The Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers was established because of Lal Shastri.

4. On January 11, 1962, at least 2000 people died due to a snowstorm and rockslide in the northwest part of Peru. At that time, millions of tons of snow, rocks, mud, and debris suddenly descended from the Andes, the highest mountain in Peru. This catastrophe occurred at midnight, burying 8 cities under debris. Although some people were rescued, in 1970, another snowstorm in Peru claimed about 2000 lives.

Previously, individuals with type 1 diabetes did not survive more than a few weeks or months. Scientists Frederick Banting and Charles Best discovered insulin. In 1921, Banting and Best successfully extracted the insulin hormone from the pancreas at the University of Toronto. Insulin plays a crucial role in controlling blood sugar levels, and a deficiency leads to diabetes.
