In a significant move to maintain the sanctity of the upcoming inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22, several states in Bharat have declared a “dry day” on the occasion. This decision, aimed at promoting sobriety and respect for the event, prohibits the sale of alcoholic drinks, including in pubs and restaurants.
Chhattisgarh, where the BJP recently emerged victorious in elections, was the first state to announce the ban on alcohol sales on January 22. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai declared, “The state government has decided that January 22 will be a dry day in the entire state”.
Assam also joined the initiative to commemorate the inauguration of the Ram Temple. Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, following a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced, “The Assam government has decided to declare January 22 as a dry day.”
Uttar Pradesh, the host state for the grand event, has issued directives for a dry day as well. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the significance of the day, declaring it to be celebrated like a “national festival.” In addition to banning liquor sales, January 22 has been declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the state.
As part of the global observance of this historic occasion, the Inauguration of the Ram Temple will be broadcast live from New York’s iconic Times Square. The event will also be live-streamed at thousands of temples and booths across India, allowing people from various regions to witness and participate in the ceremony. Additionally, Indian embassies and consulates worldwide will also broadcast the event, connecting the global Indian diaspora to this momentous celebration.
The installation of the Ram Lalla idol in the Ram Temple’s sanctum-sanctorum, known as ‘Pran Pratishtha,’ is the focal point of the inauguration ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the event in Ayodhya, further highlighting the national and cultural significance of this moment in Indian history.
